Ms. Nording’s Weekly Update: August 3, 2020

 In Weekly Newsletter

Happy Monday!

Thank you again for such a great week last week! Fluency went great today! There were a few technical difficulties but I was able to test most students. If we missed each other today I will be reaching out to you to set up a different time for your student to take their fluency test. I cannot tell you all enough how much your flexibility has meant to me the last few school days. This is going to be a great year despite all the challenges we are facing!

Testing this week

Find our schedule for the rest of the week in the “Weekly Directions” topic in Google Classroom. Half of the class will be meeting with me in the morning for their test and half will be meeting with me in the afternoon. The tests will be given during our regular group time so that the rest of the schedule will stay the same. During the test the students will stay on the google meets link with me as they complete their test in another window. This is so I will be available to answer any questions that they may have during their test. It is so important that they are not given any outside help for these tests because the results will help me to place them in groups that will best help them grow. Thank you so much for your support on this. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Tuesday: Writing

Wednesday: Spelling

Thursday: Math

Friday: Reading

Google Classroom Assignments

I am starting to gradually add more work to our google classroom “classwork” section. I realize that for some students it has been a struggle to get their classwork done and others get it done quickly and have a lot of free time. As we finish testing more work will be expected every day along with more pre-recorded lessons. If your student is one that is struggling please have them take advantage of my “office hours” for individual help. It is the same meeting code that we use for our whole group and small group meetings (nickname: nording). They are from 8:45-9:30am and 2:15-2:45pm. If your student needs extra help outside of this please let me know and we can schedule a time.

Late Work

If your student gets behind on their work make sure that they are completing their assignments in order. For example, always do Monday’s work before Tuesday even if it is currently Tuesday. Most of my lessons will build on each other so skipping one can make the work very confusing. Also, if your student turns in a assignment that is not actually complete I will return it to them and it will show as “missing/late.” I will also be adding a comment to the assignment if this happens so you know why it was returned without a grade. As of right now I am not taking off points for work turned in late.

Grades

I have begun grading work form last week on google classroom. If you ever have a question about an assignment or grade please do not hesitate to reach out to me!

Have a wonderful week!
